Returning Customer from Peru Buys a Used CAT 420F Backhoe Loader
I still remember the first time I talked to Jan from Peru. It was last year, right around springtime. He had found our company, Hongying Used Machinery, on Google while searching for a used excavator.
We spent several days chatting about options, checking photos, and talking through details late into the night because of the time difference.
He finally chose a CAT 320GC, and I handled the inspection and shipment myself.
When he told me the excavator arrived in perfect shape and was already working on site, I felt proud.
Last month, a familiar message popped up on my WhatsApp (+86 18937132324).
“Hi Coco, long time no see! Do you have any good backhoe loaders?”
I smiled right away. I didn’t even need to ask who it was.

Catching Up First
Before talking business, we chatted a bit.
Jan said work had been steady, maybe even a little busier than before. He wanted a backhoe loader this time—something smaller and more flexible than his excavator, good for quick digging and loading work.
He preferred CAT again, of course. He also mentioned he wanted something “clean,” with original parts and a good maintenance record.
He added, almost teasingly,
“Coco, pick one like you’d buy it for yourself.”
That line stuck in my head.
The Machine That Caught My Eye
A few days earlier, a preowned CAT 420F had come into our yard.
It used to belong to a landscaping company in Shanghai. The day it arrived, I noticed it looked unusually tidy—no dents, no heavy dirt caked on the frame.
Out of curiosity, I climbed up and started it.
The engine started smoothly on the first try. No smoke, just that steady CAT rumble.
The control levers felt tight, the hydraulics responded quickly.
The previous owner had kept a small logbook with maintenance dates scribbled in pen—one entry each year without fail.
That kind of record is rare, and it told me they cared for the machine.
I thought, This one might be perfect for Jan.

Showing Instead of Saying
I don’t like overselling. I prefer to show.
So I spent the next morning taking photos and short clips—the loader arms moving, the backhoe digging a small patch of dirt, the dashboard running.
The paint still had a soft shine in the sunlight, a bit faded near the edges, but that’s normal.
I sent everything to Jan with a short note:
“Take a look. I think this is your guy.”
He replied an hour later:
“Looks great. How’s the condition of the tires?”
I snapped four more photos and sent them right away.
Later that night, his message came in:
“Okay, Coco. Let’s go ahead.”
We confirmed the order on Sept. 25 , 2025.

Preparing for Shipment
Once the payment cleared, I arranged our final inspection.
We changed the filters, checked every fluid, tested lights, horn, brakes—the usual routine.
I like being there when loading starts. Watching the machine being rolled carefully into the 40-foot container always makes me nervous and proud at the same time.
Before the door closed, I filmed one last short video for Jan.
“Here she goes,” I said.
He answered with a laughing emoji and wrote,
“Second CAT from Coco!”
Why He Came Back
Later I asked, half-curious, “You didn’t check other suppliers this time?”
He said,
“No need. The first excavator is still running perfectly. I know you’ll send me a good one.”
Simple words, but they mean everything in our line of work.
Buying used equipment from another continent takes trust. That’s what I value most.

What I’ve Learned Over Time
People often think selling used machines is about pricing.
But what really matters is honesty.
If there’s a scratch, show it. If there’s a noise, record it.
Clients can feel sincerity even through a phone screen.
At Hongying Used Machinery, that’s how we operate.
We test every excavator, loader, bulldozer, or roller before offering it.
We send real photos, not touched-up ones.
And we handle shipping and paperwork carefully so clients don’t need to worry.
A Small Message from Peru
A week after the shipment left Shanghai, Jan sent me a picture of his old CAT 320GC parked near a dusty site. Underneath, he wrote:
“Waiting for his little brother.”
I laughed out loud in the office.
These are the small moments that make this job rewarding.
He also mentioned he might need a used wheel loader next year. I told him, half-joking,
“You’re turning into our official Peru branch!”
